Grain full is the eighth solar term in the 24 solar terms in China and the second solar term in summer. It falls between May 20 and 22 of the Gregorian calendar every year when the sun reaches 60° of the ecliptic longitude.
The name Grain full has two meanings: one is that the grains of summer crops such as wheat begin to become full but are not yet fully mature; the other is that the rain in the southern region begins to increase, precipitation is frequent, and the rivers are full at this time.
The ancient Chinese divided the fifteen days of Grain full into three phases: the first phase is the blooming of bitter herbs. After the Grain full solar term, the bitter herbs have lush branches and leaves; the second phase is the death of grass. Some shade-loving grasses with thin branches begin to die under the strong sun; the third phase is the arrival of wheat autumn. In the last period of Grain full, wheat begins to mature.
During Grain full, the temperature rises and the rainfall increases. The southern region is often hot, humid, rainy, and cold and warm meet frequently. Severe convective weather occurs from time to time. Be alert to heavy rain, strong winds, thunder and lightning. There is little or even no rainfall in the northern region, but the temperature rises rapidly, and the temperature difference between the north and the south is further narrowed. High temperatures above 35℃ begin to appear in the areas south of the Yellow River to the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River.
There are many customs during the Xiaoman solar term, such as the summer busy meeting, which is a traditional gathering activity in rural China. It is usually held after the summer wheat harvest. People exchange and buy production tools, livestock and various crops. Some areas also display traditional agricultural techniques, handicrafts and local operas.

During this period, wheat also enters the critical period of grain filling: "Filling to 80%, leaving two points of elasticity to resist dry and hot winds." Watering should be done in time according to the soil moisture conditions to avoid excessive irrigation to prevent affecting the vitality of the root system and grain filling!
"Wheat is ripe, and food is taken from the tiger's mouth." This seemingly harvest-seeking season is the battlefield that grain people cannot afford to slack off. The life-and-death race that determines the quality of grain is not only about harvesting, but grain screening is also crucial.
